PEC teamed with the fabricator, Nelson Manufacturing, to design, analyze, manufacture, and test STTARS, the transporter for NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. PEC helped direct the design team on key technical decisions, perform complex assembly FEA (stress and shock), ensure a manufacturable design, and develop the test plan. As the unit was transported on a specialized C-5 aircraft, PEC also led the air transport certification effort.

PEC worked with an Aerospace OEM and manufacturer to design and analyze an engine ground test bellmouth. The bellmouth was carbon fiber composite over a honeycomb core. PEC performed static and dynamic finite element analyses to ensure that the design was fully compliant with the end customer’s exacting strength, stiffness, and vibration requirements.

PEC worked with an Aerospace OEM and the manufacturer to design, analyze, and test a custom, 10-axle, large-payload transporter. The transporter incorporated a unique frame shape, hydraulic suspensions, and ultra-high-strength steels. PEC performed finite element and fatigue analyses to ensure that the design was fully compliant with the end customer’s detailed requirements. After fabrication, PEC instrumented the first article with accelerometers, strain gauges, and string pots to verify and validate analytical test predictions.
